Poettker recognized at Southwestern Illinois College's (SWIC) liberal arts building dedication

Charles Poettker was recognized by Southwestern Illinois College President Elmer Kirchoff as the school dedicated its 46,000-square-foot, $10.3 million liberal arts building on their campus in Belleville.

“In my long, long career I have been involved in a lot of building projects and this one went as smoothly and as quickly as any one I have ever been involved in,” said Kirchoff.The facility includes 16 classrooms, faculty offices, a computer lab and an expanded Barnes and Noble bookstore. There are 248 classes scheduled to be offered in the building during spring of 2008. Poettker, a graduate of the college, was the general contractor for the project.

“When my instructor, Surendra Kohka, taught me blue print reading he had no idea I would be standing here having built this facility on your campus,” Poettker laughingly told the audience Tuesday. “I am a testimony to what President Kirchoff has done about building a quality workforce.”

The Liberal Arts Building was designed by PGAV Architects with expert support from Juneau Associates civil engineers, EDM, Inc. structural engineers; BRiC Partnership MEP engineers; Quality Testing; Henneman Engineering, Inc; Studio M, Ltd.-furnishings; GRP Mechanical-plumbing; Belleville Mechanical-heating and ventilating; Barton Electric and L&K Fire Protection.

Funding came from the State of Illinois Capital Development Board ($7.7 million) and SWIC ($2.6 million).
